The Earliest Smith that can be Traced is Jacob Smith in 1817. He Married Martha Madin in 1836.
Jacob Was Born in Warsop, Nottinghmashire.
In the 1851 Census Jacob was living with Martha's Parents in Brampton, Derbyshire and is listed as Relation ' Son-in-Law '
They Continued to Live in Brampton appearing on the census record upto
1871 although this is where things go strange with the age. in the
1871 census, Jacob is listed as been 51, Although in the books he is
listed as the right age of 54? This also happens in the next census
record thereafter.
In 1881 he is reported to be living in Hasland, Debyshire
In 1891 he then shows up as living in Grassmoor, Derbyshire
Then Finally in 1901 he is back in Hasland, Derbyshire again.
There is a Brief family history which reads:
' Martha was born at Brampton 1816 and Jacob was from the Warsop area,
born in 1817. Martha came from a farming family, her father Francis born
1782 at Brampton, farming 8acres, mother Betty originated from Walton,
born 1789. Jacob's occupation was as a wheelwright, later he is working
as a carpenter and farmer (1861)
Martha and Jacob had several
children Emma born at Brampton in 1845, Betty 1846, Francis 1850, George
1853, William H 1856, Tom, 1859. Three other children have the surname
of Madin, Ann 1836, Mary 1838, Jane 1841.Living with the family in 1861
was Martha's mother Betty now a widow and grandson John Madin born in
1858. '
